Exploring Rofi – Window Switcher and Application Launcher

I've been noticing I mainly use the start menu to type in the app I want to use, so I started looking into better alternatives I could replace the start menu with. I came across Ulauncher and Rofi — both looked really nice, but I decided to go with Rofi since it can not only open apps, but also act as a run dialog, SSH launcher, file switcher, and even run custom scripts like “connect to Wi-Fi” or “change audio source”.

Journey to Shreveport Bossier Maker Faire

In 2024, I received an invitation to join the Shreveport-Bossier Maker Faire . I was excited to share how we use innovation and digital fabrication to empower people in remote regions of Iceland, through the network of Icelandic Fab Labs, which has been active since 2007 when the first lab opened in Vestmannaeyjar. I wanted to highlight how Fab Lab Ísafjörður has made its mark and created local as well as global impact.

Journey to Neovim

I remember the feeling of opening Vim for the first time some years ago when I switched to Linux. It felt like being transported into another dimension an empty one with no way out. After closing my terminal in panic, I never dared touch it again. Later, when I described what I had experienced to a programmer friend, he just smiled and said, “It’s cool though.” So I looked into it a bit, but it was overwhelming.

Now, years later, I’m much more comfortable in the terminal. And after recently redoing my Zsh setup, the idea of trying Vim again came back but this time through Neovim: a modern version of Vim with a strong community and Lua-based configuration.

Under the scope

It all started with me needing to run a quick test on an RP2040 board. Just a simple check. So I asked:
"Hey, do we have any spare RP2040 boards lying around?"

Svavar, my ever-resourceful colleague, rummaged around and handed me a small stack. Among them was a Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040 he described as “pretty much dead.” It overheated almost instantly when plugged in and showed no signs of life over USB. He’d already tried the usual recovery tricks BOOTSEL mode, re-flashing but nothing worked.

Well, not nothing. The LED still lit up.

Naturally, I took that as challenge accepted.
